The disciples return with joy over what happened through their ministry. Jesus redirects their deepest rejoicing: their names are written in heaven. He does not dismiss the work; He locates their security somewhere more enduring than its results.
An assignment can change. A role can end, a season can close and an opportunity can be passed to someone else. If our whole identity rests on what we do, those changes can feel like the loss of our right to matter.
