BECOMING · DAY 06

COMPARISON CANNOT NAME YOU

❧

John 21:20–22 · John 21:22 (WEB)

“

Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple whom Jesus sincerely loved, the one who had also leaned on Jesus’ breast at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray you?” Peter seeing him, said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”

John 21:20–22 · John 21:22 (WEB)

After Jesus calls Peter to follow Him, Peter asks about another disciple. Jesus brings him back to his own response: 'You follow me.' Peter does not need access to another person's future in order to obey.

Comparison can make someone else's marriage, ministry, career or pace seem like evidence against our own life. We begin asking whether we are behind before asking whether we are faithful. Another woman's visible progress cannot explain the whole of God's work in either of us.

Return to the instruction you actually have. Celebrate another person's good without turning it into a deadline for yourself. If comparison reveals a real desire, bring that desire honestly to God. Then choose one act of faithfulness that fits your responsibilities, capacity and present season.

Jesus' call on another woman cannot become the measuring stick for yours.

Whose progress most often changes the way I feel about my own life?

What responsibility am I neglecting while trying to understand someone else's journey?

Take a moment to answer honestly.

Jesus, bring my attention back to Your call. Help me celebrate others freely and name my own desires honestly. Release me from measuring my obedience by another person's visibility or pace. Teach me to follow You with gratitude and faithfulness in the life before me. Amen.

Record one comparison that has troubled you. Write what it makes you believe, then identify one action you can take without needing anyone else's journey to change.
